Sulima Fel Medina x Film w Glissa for Palestine Cinema Days and Aflamuna

Dar Bellarj, 6pm to 9pm

Join us at Dar Bellarj for a special screening of Maloul Celebrates its Destruction (dir. Michel Khleifi, 31”) to recognise the solemn anniversary of the Balfour Declaration. The Balfour Declaration was a statement of British support for “the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people.” It was made in a letter dated November 2, 1917, from Arthur James Balfour, the British foreign secretary, to Lionel Walter Rothschild, 2nd Baron Rothschild (of Tring), a leader of the Anglo-Jewish community. The Balfour Declaration was lobbied for by zionists at the time and is the root of the ongoing Nakba experienced by Palestinians and the root of the formation of the Israeli state at the cost of Palestinian genocide.

From 6pm to 7.30pm. Join us with Bake For Palestine, have a seat, eat some sweets, and learn to embroider a small watermelon with the Gifted Mothers!

Ma’loul is a Palestinian village in Galilee. In 1948, it was destroyed by the Israeli armed forces, and its inhabitants were forced to flee either to Lebanon or neighboring Nazareth. Ever since, former Ma’loul residents are only allowed to visit it once a year, on the anniversary of the occupation. That is how a picnic on this day, on the site of the destroyed village, became a tradition.

This screening joined the movement initiated by Palestine Cinema Days and Aflamuna to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people by organising film screenings worldwide. Amplify Palestinian voices, expose false narratives, and inspire collective action toward justice and liberation.

Sulima Fel Medina offers a local cinema in the Medina of Marrakech. We see independent cinema as a tool for reflecting on social and political realities, but also as an art form that captures and archives our times.

Through screenings and workshops, we intend to create a cinema open to all, democratising the cinematic gesture as an act of creation and reception.

Sulima Fel Medina’s ambition is to stimulate the desire for cinema and to open up circles of dialogue on the distribution of images, but also to use the pretext of cinema to get together.

Film w Glissa is a platform and program dedicated to the distribution of independent films from the so-called “Global South” and its diaspora. Through screenings, discussions, and workshops, the platform fosters exchange around cinematographic creation, exploring its diverse forms and themes. By building our program in dialogue with other collectives from the “Global South” and its diaspora, we seek to create creative bridges, allowing films and ideas to travel while encouraging reciprocal learning.
