30 October, 7 to 9:30 pm, Maqam.tv Film Screening @Villa Majorelle
Villa Majorelle is in between the YSL Museum and Majorelle Garden entrance.
Maqam.tv curated by Sophia Attigui closes our Autumn 22 edition of the festival with a film screening of ‘Jaffa, The Orange’s Clockwork’ (2009) dir. Eyal Sivan (88’, English subtitles).
Screening documentary Jaffa, the Orange Clockwork (2009) dir. Eyal Sivan, Maqam.tv has chosen this work for its connection to the political entanglements of food and food making. The documentary is a journey from the abundant harbour town of Jaffa to the notorious Jaffa orange, a fruit that became the symbol of Israeli success and Palestinian loss after having been the other symbol of unity between Jews and Arabs. Through a rich ensemble of Palestinian and Israeli voices and rarely accessed collections of film, photo and music archives set against lush lands and vast orchards, Israeli filmmaker Eyal Sivan draws the witty, intelligent and generous portrait of the famous citrus fruit.
