Within Emerging Business Factory’s (EBF) new location at M Tech on M Avenue Marrakech, we will see the launch of  EBF’s Digital Mapping Project of the Marrakech Earthquake Response. The Digital Earthquake Response Project is initiated and engineered by EBF and supported by Global Diversity Foundation. It will see a diverse set of digital management specialists consolidate information from databases, maps, spreadsheets and other sources generated by dozens of agencies, citizens, community members and organisations who have contributed to the earthquake response. This initiative will be of invaluable support in earthquake relief monitoring and evaluation for individuals, organisations and government bodies all of whom are invited to support the project.

Using established and experimental methods, EBF plans to consolidate earthquake response data and information through the Mapathons website domain, which uses Tasking Manager, a platform where individuals can team up for mapping in OpenStreetMap. Tasking Manager is a free and open-source software developed by the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, an international group of people dedicated to humanitarian action and community development through open mapping.

Emerging Business Factory is well-placed to coordinate this project as it supports digital enterprises and start-ups, leads successful hackathons and has two co-working spaces in Marrakech, at Sidi Ghanem and M Avenue. A Moroccan private sector company with an associated non-profit (Emerging Business Foundation), EBF works closely with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Tourism and other government agencies, university centres such as Cadi Ayyad University’s Cité de l’Innovation as well as local, national and international non-profit organisations.

This Mapathon is open to anyone involved in earthquake response who wants to contribute to live mapping an aspect of the larger project.
